P.L. Light is conducting its own research into the possibilities for using LED for lighting in horticultural industry. This is done at its own research location and also with a number of owners under practical conditions. The objective is to get an idea of how we can light plants efficiently with LEDs. In 2007/2008 tests were carried out at our own research location on tomatoes, paprikas, lettuce, strawberries and phalaenopsis.
These tests provided a lot of information about cultivating under LEDs both in combination with high pressure sodium fixtures and on their own. At the same time the tests made it clear that a lot still has to be learnt before LEDs can be used on a large-scale in horticultural industry as practical, energy efficient, supplemental lighting.
