P.L. Light Systems

About This Site's Design

The P.L. Light Systems Web site was designed to follow open, international standards and to meet accessibility requirements while being as light and quick as possible to download at any connection speed or on any internet device.

Access keys

Most browsers support keyboard navigation; on Windows, you can press ALT + an access key; on Macintosh, you can press CTRL + an access key. The following access keys are available:

Accessibility

If you have visual or mobile impairments, you may notice that this site follows accessibility guidelines closely:

  • Style sheets are used to present visual layout. If your browser does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
  • Markup is completely free of presentational tags and is structurally meaningful.
  • No content is presented by graphics alone, graphics are not necessary to understand the main content.
  • Text equivalents are provided for every non-text element (e.g., using "alt" or "longdesc" attributes, or in element content).

Web Standards

By employing W3C Web Standards practice(s), encouraging semantic markup techniques (XHTML 1.1) and separating style from content (CSS2), site content needs only to be published once and will be accessible to the widest possible audience.

Code

All markup on this site is validated XHTML 1.1. By removing legacy coding such as nested layout tables and font tags, the page size is dramatically reduced, and the source code is much easier to read and maintain.

Validation

This web site complies with the following web standards:

Valid XHTML 1.1

This indicates that this web site uses valid XHTM 1.1, as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). For details, see the official specification at http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/.

Valid CSS

This indicates that this web site uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for layout, rather than hard coded tags that force the site to be displayed in a certain way. For details, see the official specification at http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2.

Level Double-A conformance icon,
W3C-WAI Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0

This indicates that this web site has been designed to conform to guidelines on accessibility for those with disabilities which prevent them using graphical web browsers, by adhering to standards laid done down by the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative. For details, see http://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG1AA-Conformance.
